Kaunlaran
Elementary School, Eyeglass Project Stage 2 |
Paul, Hamish
Moore, Ian and Vangie Meikle attended Phase 2 of the
Eyeglass Project at Kaunlaran School, Caloocan along with
Lewis Edwards of the ABC Foundation. Dr. Jeson Vinas, the
optometrist who did the testing, delivered 260 pairs of
glasses sponsored by the society. It was a wonderful
experience to see the faces of the kids when they first put
the glasses on. One
particular boy, seen here..., who is both Myopic and
Astigmatic was an example of the difference this project can
make, his reaction to being able to see clearly was
uplifting. The school laid on a splendid welcome,
entertainment and great hospitality. We got to meet the
Principal Dr. Ailene A. Canoy and many of the teachers. The
kids were happy, with high energy and I was impressed by the
ambience of the school. Many thanks are owed to Lewis
Edwards of the
ABC
Foundation who introduced us to this opportunity. We
hope to do many more in the future. To see more go to our

Kaunlaran
Elementary School, Eyeglass Project Stage 1 |
I had a very enjoyable, and humbling, morning at the school during the testing phase of the eyeglass project. We arrived to a majorette display and the school band, then some pupils sang us a welcome song. They are truly appreciative of what we are doing.
The school is 4000 in number, with 86 teachers, and two shifts of lessons – 6am to noon and noon to 6pm. They have prepared as best they can the children that either obviously or potentially need glasses, as it would be nigh on impossible to test 4000!
From this mornings estimates, it seems a high percentage of the kids tested will actually need glasses. We are still not sure how many at this stage, but we should have a better idea
once we get the feedback. The delivery of the eyeglasses
will be on Wednesday October 6th. See pictures from the
school here.... |

At present we are buying the requested supplies and will transport them to the school on Monday 24th May. It will comprise 100
children's kits (a string bag with all the materials and equipment needed for the new school year), teachers materials/aids with the balance being spent on requested utensils and equipment for the teachers dormitory (which is the original St Andrew's School building).
We would like to invite other members along on the 24th as we will need more transport. Will make sure we take pictures. |

St Andrews School Visit
Slideshow |
Hamish Moore,
Paul Pryde, Ian Meikle and family made the trek to St
Andrews School, hidden in the foothills around Mt Pinitubo
in May 2010. We delivered school supplies for the kids
attending the school. To our surprise, there was a lot of
new construction work being done on the site sponsored by a
Korean Church Group. This will result in a very nice new
venue when it is done. Manila St Andrews will continue to
support the school however, by supplying much needed school
supplies and equipment. See a slideshow of the
visit here..... |
